Proper nutrition should be half of your focus in a successful training plan. As you place new demands on your body, you will need quality food and water to build a strong body, and to recover well. Food and drink are variables that will affect how well you feel and perform on and off the road.

It is a common mistake to not eat enough high nutrient food for the amount of calories the body is burning during a new training program. This can lead to a calorie deficit and under-performance, “bonking”, and exhaustion. Knowing the right foods to eat, amounts and the right times will provide sustained energy for your demanding training and the 4 day Tour.

On an average day, it is also best to be grazing so that you are fueling your body 5-6 times a day. You will be nourishing your hard working muscles, keeping your energy levels up while stoking your metabolism.

A good nutritional program will be your best friend while training for this event and give you the advantage of feeling like you can conquer even the toughest of climbs day after day!
